Adirondack Hike: Ampersand Mountain

We made it. My dad I hiked Ampersand Mountain today, located near Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks. This mountain is one of the “Saranac 6” and was not an easy one! This was my 5th hike in the Adirondacks, third for the month.

I’m not in “good” shape by any means, but I am in some shape, I go to the gym, I go for walks with my dog, but I don’t run! This hike was not easy at all, it was manageable, but difficult for sure.

Just under 3 miles to the summit and over 1700 feet in elevation gain. The first mile or so was very easy, the second half – no as much. You gain nearly 3/4 of your elevation in the last mile, so it felt like you were walk up stairs for days. It took us about 2.5 hours to reach the top.

There were some rock scrambles, some tricky paths, but we made it. And what a view. We were able to see the eclipse from up there too! Some lovely people let us barrow their glasses for a few minutes to check it out.

Enjoy the photos! And click here for the full album!
